WINTER, PLZ GO AWAY, KTHX!
Argh, seriously, it's like 40 degrees outside in March. Wouldn't be so bad if DST hadn't kicked in so now we're all awake before dawn again. Well, I did buy the sunrise simulator clock at a good time.
My funk usually starts during fall, so when I smell the leaves in the air, I also know I'm going to be really fatigued and not want to go outside much - which is hard on me since I used to like fall as a kid. Now I just want to remain the slug that I am and curl up in bed until 3 pm.
So, I've been researching light therapy, and Web MD says it's "exposure to light that is brighter than indoor light but not as bright as direct sunlight. Do not use ultraviolet light, full-spectrum light, heat lamps, or tanning lamps for light therapy."
Okay, so how many lux do I need? Most sites say that for light boxes it depends on how far away I am. With visors, since they're closer to my eyes I'll be able to get the rays better so I need 1000 lux at about 1.5 inches.
I'm supposed to do the therapy right after I wake up to receive the best benefits. With light boxes I need to sit still to receive the therapy, but (at least with my schedule) I'm not going to be sitting in front of a light box while I'm getting dressed and eat. I wonder if visors would be really glaring or manageable. They seem pricey no matter what site I google, but if that helps me, it helps me, so it's worth it.
When I google "light therapy products" I get a company named...well...Light Therapy Products. They carry a visor from BioBrite! Are you kidding? Lol, I was thinking of them first choice anyway since I got the clock since the delivery time was pretty fast (and I'm kind of desperate as we dash toward spring). The Light Therapy Products company also carries something called "SolarMax visor." There's also a "BrightLight hat visor."
What's the difference?
EDIT: Okay, so SolarMax and the "Deluxe Light Visor" are both BioBrite's but upon calling, the customer service rep said one has the batteries in the visor strap that goes around your head and the Deluxe has a battery pack that clips on so it's lighter. The clip-on also has a timer in there so I wouldn't have to worry about getting too much light.
Does anyone have experiences with either type of therapy?
